The Lecture Hall

The Lecture Hall in Salisbury Street was built in 1863 by J.F.Rutter, a solicitor and Quaker, living at Dewes House, Mere. A Friends' Meeting House was incorporated into the building but for some years now no Quakers have met in Mere. The Hall was used chiefly for Non-conformist events and the Mere Temperance Society meetings; no alcohol was permitted to be consumed on the premises and this still applies today. A wide variety of events have taken place there in recent years and it is the base for Mere Drama Society.
